MKB: What inspired you to create these books?
Amanda Hsiung-Blodgett: My inspiration to create my blog MissPandaChinese.com and my books stems from my two children, my students, and passionate parents eager to guide their children in acquiring Mandarin in an engaging and playful way. As numerous studies suggest, play is vital for children’s learning at all ages, and listening and reading are key catalysts for language acquisition.
I’ve integrated these three powerful elements to develop Mandarin learning resources and bilingual books. These tools are designed to support parents and teachers, enhancing their approach to teaching and making language acquisition an enjoyable experience for children. For example, my streaming album, “Let’s Learn Mandarin Chinese with Miss Panda!” has been used by thousands of parents around the world, leading to young learners joyfully using simple everyday Chinese in their daily lives.
MKB: Do you have other books coming up?
Amanda Hsiung-Blodgett: I am currently working on “My First Chinese Stories,” a bilingual book series designed to guide children in reading simple sentences through engaging mini-stories.
