Friends Book by Annabelle Humanes is both a tool and a memento for kids moving to a new place. It is something that creatively involves children in the process of saying goodbye to the people they love.
Annabelle was inspired to create the book based on personal experience. She says, “A couple of years ago when we were preparing for our own move abroad, I created my own version of a little German tradition called the Freundebuch. It is a book that kids leaving kindergarten for school share with each other. My kids (ages 7 and 11 at the time) and their friends loved them. Their teachers loved them, too, and left the sweetest notes. My kids treasure those books to this day.”
This book is ideal for expats, immigrants, digital nomads, military families, and anyone else on the move. Annabelle says, “Saying goodbye is as important as preparing for new hellos. This Friends Book helps your child do just that. It takes little space, so you can easily include it in your luggage or make it part of a larger treasure box with other mementos from your former home, city, or country.”
She continues, “With this Friends Book, your child can creatively involve their friends, teachers, coaches, and anyone else they want to keep in touch with. Simply print out the pages and let your child hand them out to their friends. They can stick pictures, drawings, and little notes in the book, creating a wonderful keepsake of memories and friendships.”
Available as a digital download or a printed paperback, Friends Book comes in three versions based on age groups: 3-6 years, 6-12 years, and 12+ years. The book is available for purchase on Etsy as a digital download. Annabelle has plans to create a French version in the near future.

She trained as a linguist and academic researcher in language acquisition. She worked in academia for over a decade teaching languages and carrying out research in language acquisition in young children.
