Back to School Around the World

In many parts of the world, students have just started back to school after the summer holidays (not the case everywhere, of course, particularly in the southern hemisphere!). We wanted to celebrate the start of a new school year with a snapshot of what going back to school looks like around the world, as represented by our MKB family.

I remember when I walked into elementary school holding our 5 years old’s hand. He was starting kindergarten and I was overwhelmed with emotions bringing him to this big school. Today, he’s starting middle school. As we were getting out of the car I felt a tightness in my chest. He was walking ahead of me and I felt the same emotions from years ago. However, this time he wasn’t the little kid holding mommy’s hand tightly but he was a tween walking confidently into middle school (a much bigger one too!) Yet, here I was with tears building up and refusing to let him see me cry. Plus I didn’t want to embarrass my middle-schooler LOL So he walked away with other kids as hubby and I walked to the car. Once in my car, I just broke down and cried. Yes, I’m the emotional and sentimental mom. He’s ready for this new adventure and I pray he has a blessed and successful new school year. Most importantly a safe one too!

Obligatory first day of the new school year pictures 😘. In true Dutch fashion, our four-year-old Matteo officially starts elementary school today. Students are invited to start around their fourth birthday and since Matteo’s was during the summer holiday, he gets to start with the rest of the seasoned kids. The morning was rough for both of us – he’s incredibly shy and I suffered from slight empty nest syndrome (thank goodness Eleanor is still home). But by the time I picked him up for lunch, he was holding hands with a new friend and was all smiles when he noticed me waiting for him. And that dear friends, wiped away all my unnecessary worries and anxieties. Second photo of my two elementary school boys, Matteo in Group 1 and Bram Jr. in Group 4. I love how these two boys have style! They chose their outfits themselves 😍. Wishing everyone a wonderful start to the new school year! 😘
